3.50 Limerick
Focusing on the 3.50 race at Limerick, we spotlight Favori De Champdou. This horse demonstrated promise in his chase debut at Galway, impressively leaping alongside eventual winner Affordale Fury until he encountered some trouble at the penultimate fence. Despite that setback, he only lost by a hard-fought length and a half to a previous Albert Bartlett runner-up.
The next performance saw Favori De Champdou claim victory over notable competitors Sandor Clegane and Flooring Porter in the Grade 2 Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. His adept jumping and ability to pull away convincingly in the latter stages of the race showcased his talent.
After a string of mixed results—some disappointing outings in Grade 1 company—this nine-year-old has exhibited a penchant for freshness as he tends to perform better when coming back for the season. With a successful track record going right-handed and a history of strong performances early in the new campaign, his target for today seems wel-placed. The BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National Handicap Chase should suit him, especially as the competition appears tailored less towards his unsuited left-handed runs.
4.20 Sedgefield
Shifting our focus to Sedgefield, it’s tough to overlook Jesuitique, a runner that certainly feels primed for a strong performance in today’s Durham National. Following a regaining of confidence with a solid round of jumping at Worcester, this horse seems ready to capitalize on a substantial weight advantage compared to last year’s journey against Tommie Beau.
In 2023, Jesuitique was unable to clinch victory, finishing a disappointing third after making critical missteps. However, that performance comes with the caveat of a subsequent injury, leaving an explanation for the lackluster showing. Fast forward to today’s race—Jesuitique finds himself coming into the action with an impressive 18-pound advantage over Tommie Beau from that run, which certainly tilts the scales in his favor. With a clear round expected today, it’s reasonable to expect that the betting will reflect a reversal of respective fortunes.
